Boris Johnson's record is now under scrutiny in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower blaze.
During his time as London mayor Boris Johnson closed ten fire stations and sacked 500 firefighters.  He said it would save 29 million.  Even his own fire authority voted against the move.
At the time it was claimed the closures wouldn't affect response times.  But a recent study by Lancaster University shows this isn't true.  Before the cuts the response time for the first fire engine was generally well under five minutes.  Following the cuts however only 50% of calls are met within the London Fire Brigade's own six minute target.
